Advanced Design

Dreamweaver CS4

There are often cases when additional training and tools will be necessary, publishing content means knowing the best ways of delivering it. Our team covers expansive knowledge of more than 20 different programming languages, the entire Adobe CS4 Master Collection (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks, Soundbooth, Premiere, After Effects, and more), and over 100 different Mac, Windows, and Web based apps. We recommend that all of our clients get started with Dreamweaver as soon as possible, it is by far the most affordable and exhaustive web tool that can be learned by anyone with little effort (but lots of dedication and assistance from professionals is a must).

This is why we still have a job; AllStruck provides fluency in all of the programs, we keep up to date with all of them, including programming languages, frameworks, API’s, plugins, and more. Our focus is on providing the best possible solutions, rating them first on security, then on accessibility, and then on countless other metrics we closely monitor and often report.

Flash

Have you ever seen a website done completely in Flash and just knew, that is what you want? Have you been hearing all of these web designers saying that complete Flash sites are just not SEO friendly, can’t be used by the blind, or load too slow? There are a lot of Flash sites which load slow, and many of them are not SEO friendly, are not accessible, or have any other combination of problems. Solutions to all of these problems can be found, one amazing framework can change everything. At AllStruck we’ve created several Flash websites using a popular framework called Gaia, so all problems are fixed, and development time is decreased dramatically. We don’t recommend showing Flash/HTML links on a splash page to visitors either, we can detect if Flash is available instantly and make decisions for the visitor. Don’t put aside this amazing tool for design, most sites using it are embedding small Flash areas into non-necessary sections of the site for that added appeal, if Flash is not installed the user can’t tell any real difference. Throw away what you previously knew about websites, because the changes are coming in daily, faster and faster as time goes on.

Is Flash Here To Stay?

There is always a risk with using any platform, especially on the internet; Things change so fast that any one technology may bite the dust at any time. What is worse is that almost every platform security holes will be found and without updates the entire project is at risk. As a platform, Flash has been around for a long time and has undergone many changes; One major change was the purchase of Macromedia by Adobe, that is the transfer ownership and development. Today there is a major worry with the widespread use of mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad, and countless others which almost never could support completely Flash websites. Screen size, limited battery life, low bandwidth, and lack of mouse hover could for some time block Flash support on phones.

We still develop Flash websites however, while mobile browser use may even some day top computer browser use we see little possibility of the complete loss of this market, in-fact there has not been a loss of users as much as an increase in current users. Each Flash website we create is complemented with the HTML equivalent for mobile and non-flash users. The idea has always been to provide as many options as possible to access the information you want to provide, it doesn’t end with just a mobile non-Flash site and a 100% Flash site. The scope is constantly increasing to the development of proprietary applications, social network profiles, and much more.

Flash makes possible one thing; Limitless development of software capable of mixing the four precursors to software; Text, Audio, Images, and Video. The only drawback has been that developers are not all using the same practices and don’t think through enough possible use-cases. A mature development process is quick and adaptive, creating secure and widely accessible results.

Alternatives to Flash are cropping up in large numbers, for some time now too. Recently the two most popularly compared have been jQuery and HTML5. Unfortunately Flash provides something that just hasn’t been touched yet by Open Sourced software since HTML and the World Wide Web. Flash can not only publish documents that can, with a client plugin installed, mix together any combination of text, audio, images, and video either stored locally or from another internet location, but can also publish the same source to a wide variety of other platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux, and even mobile operating systems. Secure connection with user’s video and audio devices, new 3D and object oriented language elements, and character sequencing advancements have made Flash the most widely-used, and arguably the most capable and intuitive development platform to date. Perhaps the only current draw-back is the barrier to entry and constant updates. It takes a long time to master any one of Adobe’s Creative Suite applications; We are currently performing tests of, and waiting eagerly for more stability to deploy projects with the new Adobe CS5.
